NICE to only play places where the person who booked you is enthusiastic enough to want to come watch you play. It's sort of like, beyond the business side of it, shouldn't the talent buyer be so enthusiastic that they're telling THEIR friends "you've got to come see these guys I've got coming to town, you should come with me!"

I know, I know - what a Lovely, perfect world THAT would be, but I can dream, can't I? Le sigh.

 

PLOJ XXXV. A small Pot Luck by all accounts, which made me a little disappointed, but on the other hand, it was really, really good to get them rolling again. On the left there you can see that Greta Ehrig came out, and whereas in previous PLOJes she's hidden along the sidelines and only played a song or two at everyone else's intense prodding, she played a good number of tunes for us, filling the room with her sweetness.

August 24th, 2006.
So, I'm in Galveston, Texas visiting Sara, seeing the sights, avoiding the temperature. Last night we went out and hit the open mic at the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe. Didn't have any idea what to expect, though I kind of expected a little bit more, but ended up being very satisfied with what I encountered. Wrecks, the owner, was kicking off a set with him and a couple of friends when we walked in - he was lamenting that his
humour had to be curtailed because there were kids in his bar tonight. He skated the edges for a little while and kept a straight face as his humour drove from politics to music to religion and back again... it was very cute... I caught the little blonde girl, who was clearly the kid who was causing Wrecks his humouristic angst, turn to her parents at one point during the night and mouth the words "I'm SO SORRY!!!"

Her brothers were there to perform, singing and playing together. Sometimes I think about
