November 27th, 2003.

It’s Thanksgiving morning and we’re going back to Jennie’s feeling pretty good about ourselves. 10 CDs sold tonight – almost a record. Friendly people, including a guy who’s giving us a two page list of every venue he’s found in Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder and Colorado Springs. A good night indeed.

And a waitress who doth kept the ginger-ale a flowin.

And it’s Thanksgiving Day and we’re not sure what we’re doing for the day. I’ve been away from family before for Thanksgiving, but this is the first time I’ve been away from friends as well. It reminds me of working the graveshifts for the holidays back in school. Self-inflicted loneliness – double pay.

Tomorrow – well, we’ve had an invitation to Thanksgiving festivities up in the mountains – but the inviter is going home to Minnesota for Thanksgiving, which makes us feel too uncomfortable to take up the offer of strangers – and it seemed like one of those music parties that is probably overly dependant on the drug side of friendly musician-ness. Sigh.

Not to leap to conclusions or anything. And I probably shouldn’t even write that out since I don’t want to offend anyone if I’m totally wrong – but we’re on our way back to Jennie’s, and my throat is on fire from singing and the cold, dry air – and we’re looking for something – anything – that would be open and interested in feeding us… but there’s only an automated carwash (in 24 degree weather?!?!) and a liquor store. Even the gas stations are nothing more than lonely oases of soda machine logo lights.

Jennie will be getting together with Brandt, her wonderful boyfriend of the past 6 years – and we’ve taken up a lot of her time, so I don’t begrudge him the fact that he wants her ALONE for the day… but it’s a little rough because … well… what do you do on Thanksgiving Day? I guess the movie houses are open… but that could be a bit pricey – though we ARE all going on a double date to see the Matrix 3 on IMAX before they leave us to our own devices. Mewf.

DCF 1.0

(Listening to Heather’s birthday CD from Amy – and I keep saying YAY!!!! – now it’s Paul Simon from the Capeman soundtrack… such good stuff, thank you, thank you, Amy!!)

Anywho, the previous page is a picture of yet another Heather. What can I say? All Heather’s are fine.

This Heather is the wife of the journalist who just did a story on us in the Rocky Mountain Bullhorn – we’ll be posting it soon – anywho, we did the interview and then just sat talking to one another for an hour… Heather talked to David about journalist stuff, and I talked to Heather about her travels to Egypt and Paris and … well… everywhere. Travelling for the beauty of places and for the Love of other people. She was a breath of fresh air with tales of international wanderings and international humanity. She knitted as she imitated the finery of Egyptian women, posing with tea and pinky.

(NO GARLIC CRUST!!!)

The next morning finds me slow and unwilling to move. Thanksgiving Day has dawned with a whole lot of sun.

The room we’re staying in definately faces East – every morning we’re greeted with the solid light of dawn blazing through the window. By 9 or 10 am one could peek in to see Heather with her head buried beneath a pillow and myself with my head pushed as far as it will go into the crack between bed and wall – breathing only \through the grace of that little half-inch trench that provides the home of dust-bunnies and spiders and cat-hair.

Heather’s stolen the bathroom, and Jennie’s on the phone with her parents – so I’m in the kitchen, sneaking brownies and computer time…. I should call my parents.

A Thanksgiving box from Mara, Heather's mom - some Rolling Stone, some Thai Soup, a video tape of Eddie Izzard, home made bread, hot chocolate, brownies and pumkin pie!

Happy THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!

I could TRY and list all I’m thankful for – the list would start at friends and family and move on to strangers and the internet, wrapping up somewhere with chocolate and the sun and the Beauty of the World – but really, when it comes down to it – I’m just incredibly thankful for Life as a whole.

Unfortunately, the pie thwarted Mara's packing and got all... squooshed. Sigh. That's ok, I don't like pumpkin pie - and the brownies were MAGNIFICENT!!!

I’m also extremely thankful for how well Heather and I work together now. During the gig I pretty much lost my voice, and it was beautiful to be able to step back and let Heather sing lead for even my songs. Beautiful girl, beautiful voice – sweet, beautiful cooperation. We just switched our focus a bit. Enough about that – I give my vocal chords a rest, and give my fingers a rest – watch the Matrix like it was the first time.

We realized you haven't gotten any pet pics for a while. Here's Celene - we're still working on getting a picture of the even more elusive Sorrocco.
