Hee! A groundhog on the shore of Lake Eerie. He ran down to the water to be away from us and then looked off into the grey like an old grizzled fisherman. I want to go down to the rocks and hang with this guy, but have the feeling he’d vanish and then I’d get my boot stuck in his hole. Oh… wait… that’s exactly what happened.

The drive home from California was beautiful, driving in and out of the snow coming down from the North. Passing through the mountains and heading south and home. We got to Owings Mills, picked up Heather’s car, and were back on the road again in moments.

Yup, we found the Girls Gone Wild bus hunting for the Wildest Bar in America in … rural Pennsylvania.

I got a call from John Cook on the road and he asked me to host the Perk’s open mic so we had a very swift little band practice and then on to the Perk. We’re working hard on the Led Zeppelin covers for Monday’s tribute show, and though Four Sticks has come together really well, we haven’t even touched When the Levee Breaks – and that’s got me a bit nervous.

A beautiful shift of seasons as we travel Western Pennsylvania, over the mountains and on into Maryland.

The Perk open mic was a great night. A lot of really excellent performers – and it was sort of an honour to be the host. I got a lot of compliments on the sound (though I’ve got to pass some of that credit on to Brennan, because he checked everything I did) – a highlight of the night would be the Wayward Street Players (or two thirds thereof) – a couple of guys, one with a washtub bass and one with a bantar who sang and played the most realistic mouth-trumpet I’ve ever heard in my Life. I’ve played some 500+ open mics over the last couple of years, and I’ve NEVER heard anything like this. They were amazing.

Heather and I went back to Rowan’s and watched Firefly to the point of exhaustion (which wasn’t far, I was asleep halfway through the episode, and don’t even remember which one she picked out). Today has been Led Zeppelin practice and Star Trek – a good combination – and now even When the Levee Breaks is beginning to prod buttock… ass kicking will be inserted before Monday. Maybe we’ll try them out on audiences Friday and Saturday…
