Dreary day in Dallas. The rain started early this morning and is just not letting up. Lightning has been skewering and with the flatness of the local land, we can see the thunderstorms piled up out to Oklahoma. It’s supposed to clear out to sunshine by tomorrow, but the weather’s been invariably variable and unbelievably unpredictable.

This is Heather’s great-aunt’s bird, Tweety. Don’t let her sweet appearance fool her, this is a lirtle blonde hussy. She screams at her owner and screamed at Heather but sort of coos at me, gets all fluffy… she tries to bite everyone else too… yeah – totally a hussy!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Tonight we’re headed back to the same bar we played last night and doing double-duty, also playing the coffeehouse we’ll play again tomorrow night. All in all, I’m really excited about both places, just praying that this vicious, driving rain doesn’t completely eradicate the audience. We’re passing small floods left and right – who knows what was here 24 hours ago, now there’s just the top railings of fences and the top halves of “vote for” signs, their political allegiance known only to those foolish enough to go peering into the muddy grey waters.
There’s a flashing road sign that says “if there’s water on the ground turn around don’t drown!”
I hate driving in this – or being driven. Heather peers ahead into the grey as blobs of deeper greys slowly focus into physical forms, I curse people who don’t hit their headlights in this – tail lights are few and far between and sometimes a shadow is thrown into sharp relief by a bolt of lightning, suddenly resolving into cars or SUVs. Well, mostly the latter. No-one wants a small car in Texas.
Okay, whoever designed the path to the bathrooms from Morning Bell Coffee in Dallas, TX probably also designs first-person-shooters.
You know how it sort of guides you on a path and then leaves you in the dark for a while? And so you wander, afraid that you’re totally in the wrong place, getting tenser and tenser? And just when you’re afraid you’ll never find the path again, theres some clue..OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
You know how it always SEEMS like you’ve got a billion options and you’ve got NO clue where to go next?
But really…
You’ve only got one…
Finally!!! I win!!!! Now… ZOMBIES!!! (please no zombies while I pee…)
We’ve spent the day with my cousin’s two precocious kids – a seven year-old boy with a noise catalogue to rival my own and FAR more energy – and a two year-old girl that could completely pass for a tiny Uma Thurman with wide, blue-eyed wonder projected at everything in the world. She Loves my shoes and proclaims “rock star!” when she sees them. The son then goes on to say “they smell like salmon. At least it’s cooked! No-one wants feet that smell like RAW fish”. Sigh… the ongoing drama of the smell of my boots is inspiring me to write a letter to the damn company. At least the 2 year-old recognized them as rock star, but then again, when she spotted Heather’s ring she said “rock and ROLL” so it may be a generic terminology of approval.
Who KNOWS.
Btw – we’ve been keeping careful track of our mileage, especially since gas prices are obscene. Anyone who has an issue with my Saturn can check my math and kiss my ass because we’re driving fully-loaded and getting 39mpg.
