This moment is good for the soul. Last night we played one of my absolute favourite places – the Saint Charles Coffeehouse in Saint Peters, MO. A random find, our friend Jamie actually made the call that hooked us up with the venue and I’m so grateful that Jack (the owner) actually took a chance on us. It’s a warm place like a tiny little castle, with good food and great sound – it’s a hidden gem.
At the Saint Charles Coffeehouse in St Peters, Missouri outside of St Louis, MO after visiting St Claire, MO – Heather and I land at the open mic to advertise….OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
And get distracted by art!
Our new friend Ashley is painting a mural in the turret at the St Charles Coffeehouse! Twrrr. She should be imported back to my Java Mammas people where she’d fit in quite well.
Heather gives me a pleasant look at the Saint Charles Coffeehouse in St Peters, MO.
And I freakin’ rock out! (thank you to Firedancer for the awesome pictures!!!)
Heather and I performing at the Saint Charles Coffeehouse, playing our little hearts out to one of the best audiences we’ve ever had. I Loved being able to bring this place to Susan, especially, who I think has never gotten a chance to see us in a truly synergistic environment.
The audience was intent and intense and filled the room and I had one of those moments where you feel chills down the spine and a shiver and it’s all you can do to not be swept away – that moment when the connection becomes sharp and clear and you know you’re linked to the people around you by something greater. You feel that spark of link and something’s flowing from person to person and you could hear a pin drop and damn it I WILL NOT CRY.
I think Frederick’s was one of the first places we ever played in St Louis, but it closed before our second visit, much to our distress. However, the sign and the peoples apparently migrated to a new venue, the Off-Broadway Night Club in St Louis, MO.
Also at the Off Broadway – evidence of fellow-road warrior, Rose Polenzani’s existance!
At the Off Broadway, Heather and i performed in the feature slot before the open mic. It was a good stage but kind of a rough night. If only we’d known there was nutmeg waiting for us after the show (and a bad-ass spoons player – on the right there).
In any case, we played a great show there last night. I’m kicking myself for forgetting my iRiver and failing to record, but I guess all the best things in Life are transient like that.
Two words: brain meats.
It was beautiful.
And the next day the sun came out. I’m sitting on Susan’s deck listening to the birds outside and the parrots inside, praying that the calm in-which I’ve chosen to seat myself – that beautiful calm where no squirrel or tree throws its nuts at you – continues. The sunshine is beyond welcome. We haven’t seen but clouds and rain practically since Oklahoma City and the warmth and the light is like some assurance that the world will continue. It’s like a promise. Daffodils have surfaced and there’s still bite in the air but I have some hope for their continued survival. Rabbits have heralded our home-coming every night, the sky is blue, Yes is coming to town. It’s going to be a good day.
