This table used to exist at the Jahva House in Ellicott City – where ilyAIMY and We’re About 9 initially coalesced. I was utterly shocked to run across it at a sandwich shop across the street – but very pleased to run across it again. If I was more sentimental (which I am) and had more money (which I don’t) I’d totally have to buy it.
Dar’s sound crew was silly. They played plenty of pranks as a big “good bye” to everyone on the last night of the tour. Note Heather’s “bongo mix”. Also, her shaker had been taped to the stage and that water bottle is filled with cheap rum. I won’t mention the whoopie cushions.
Curse you automated toilets. I’m not going to get too much into that as I think that anyone who’s ready the Journal has probably encountered that particular rant before. But I’m glad to have my distress echoed by none other than Heather’s recent tour benefactor, Dar Williams.
Tonight we played Sully’s in Hartford, CT – and though we didn’t make a lot of money, barring that, this is what a venue SHOULD be. Filled with friendly people, all sorts mixing: hippies and old rockers next to young scenesters and chicks too cool to flirt with, all centred on a stage that’s not too big and not too small, with good sound loud enough to make you wince here and there, but mostly just filling every nook and cranny of the room, pouring into your brain and kicking over the furniture inside of it. My guitar sounds the way it SHOULD sound here, bassy and meaty and cutting – like a buzzsaw with a subwoofer.
We picked up some gigs, melted some faces, passed out plenty of cards and sold some CDs. WHY I don’t push our mailing list at places like this? Easy – because I’m stupid! Sigh.
