A tree in South Carolina.

This trip is the whirlwind and I’m not sure that I like it that way. Monday went by like lightning. Tuesday was chaos and Wednesday morning we didn’t see our hosts because they’d rolled to work. That night we flew into Snug Harbour, hurried up, waited, hurried up, waited – and then collapsed into Ben’s waiting fold-away couch – Thursday morning raced to Charleston, got in just in time to load in and watched our host pack after the show as she departed on a plane to New York City. Today we race North on I-95 and will make it to the Blue Horn Lounge, play a long show – and head home tomorrow.

A tree in North Carolina. It is these subtle visual clues that give the seasoned traveler clues as to their precise, geographical location.

On the one hand, I like the compactness. Having a home and a bed and other Hometown Enticements makes me want to get back to Maryland. I like not having lots of boring days when no-one’s home to play with, killing time and drinking coffee, cursing the internet connection at some southern cafe.

This little guy wanted to come with us. We actually were too concerned for him losing a leg to the high winds of our passage and pulled over on I-95 to let him go. Obama’s critics would’ve been proud.

On the other hand, I hate that we haven’t gotten to explore. I feel like the one thing that I did that I was really craving was getting to Cabo Fish Taco in Charlotte – but we drove through some really cool neighbourhoods that I’d have liked to wander. We were in Charleston, SC yesterday for the first time in our Lives and I’d have liked to poke into the local Atlantic and pet some Spanish moss and lick a palm tree.

Of course, it’s 91 degrees so maybe we’re just as well being sealed into our Saturn-capsule.

I’m looking forward to tonight, but I kind of wish we could’ve installed a little temporal pocket (Insinuday) between yesterday and today. Mew.
