The CD release was amazing. I could get used to people actually LISTENING to us. The feeling of owning the room, of a pin drop being audible, of people hanging on your every word… and the feeling that we were giving it all back every bit as hard as people were asking for it. The idea that we deserved the attention because we were giving every ounce of ourselves away to the audience.
It was delicious.
I feel like I need to thank people. There wasn’t room on the CD – and then post-CD there’s MORE people to thank. In creating the disc’s content we all have to thank our inspirations: Rowan always thanks Kristy and their respective families… Sharif always thanks his friends, our fans – and above all his freshly engaged fiance, Joanna (announced at the CD release no less!). Heather has family and friends and a significant other and I have the same… and we both now have to thank the friends and fans at the Java Mammas open mic who’ve kept us writing month after month… after all, no less than three songs came from our monthly songwriting challenge – Oklahoma Revival and Baliset (Sandstorm Love Affair) and rearview (Disappearing Friends). I’m sure there are others that I’m forgetting. The next CD will probably consist of even more challenge songs.
Then in the CREATION of the CD – we’ve got to send out our huge thanks to all of those who’ve joined the Cult of Saint Cecilia, giving both emotional and financial support. And of course none of this could’ve happened without the exquisite ear and also Mad Skills of our engineer, Matthew Polonchak of Transcendent Third.
And then came the CD release. First off – Bob of the Old Bowie Town Grille has created a great venue – the new stage, the new lights – not only did he help substantially with the financial side of duplication but the Grille is just a killer place to play and the show itself, as above, was amazing.
We played for around three hours. Three long sets to fit in everything we wanted to play. Having the cello meant we worked hard to fit in lots of extra tidbits that perhaps we wouldn’t otherwise have played. Things like Valeri and Will who’ve gained new Life under the talented fretless fingers of Kristen Jones. I’m really excited about performing with her in the future and she’s actually joining us for a bit in the midwest.
All in all – a breathtaking show – many of the recordings turned out well and I’ve got to figure out what to do with them. Perhaps that’s the next round for the Cult?
