Last night’s show was hard.  There are some nights where the gig just rips so much more out of me than it perhaps should.  Last night was exhausting – a long night but not a long show, I probably shouldn’t feel quite so beat.  Overheated and gasping, I felt it in the ache of my muscles that I needed to get some air before the first set was over.  With my shoes off and some time outside in the cold night air I came back to the second set stronger, but I was horribly aware of giving awfully close to my all – and it not being enough.

Robert Lighthouse was our opening act at the Old Bowie Town Grille on Saturday night. I’ve been a longtime fan of this delta blues monster – he brings a beautiful grit to this traditional form and has a voice (and an electric guitar style) none too dissimilar to Jimi Hendrix. I’ve even mistaken some of his recordings for lost Jimi tunes – normally such a close match would be something I’d point to as a negative, but with someone like Hendrix, who died so early, I’m all too happy to have a reincarnation continuing his beauty. Needless to say, I was flattered beyond belief to have him added to the bill.

I also hit two wrong chords.  I don’t think I flubbed any lyrics though… it was a good show, but I just felt old.

I’m not TOO worried… I’ve had nights like this before.  If I had a couple of them in a ROW I might be getting paranoid about it, but I think I just chalk it up to a bad night, perhaps a little more of whatever shot Bob was giving than I should’ve had, and being a bit out of shape.  We’ll see what we can do about the former, remember the second, and work on the third.  And maybe it WAS more work than I was thinking, because my legs are all weird and crampy.  But then again, maybe that’s just because I was trying to show how I’m actually a little more flexible than Sharif.

Body.  Hurts.

An unflattering picture, but man – this is pretty much JUST how I felt after Saturday’s show. Someone had just mistaken me for being in my 40s as well, so that didn’t help. Sigh.
