Welcome the squid whisk into our Lives.  I found it in a little shop somewhere in Boston.  It was too cool NOT to bring home.

A Friday all for myself.  I didn’t think I was going to have one for quite some time (November some time).  But here I am, sitting in the Living room, no place that I have to be, friends coming over in a couple of hours, listening to some of my favourite artists from my open mic… it’s pretty idyllic.  I’m going to check the weather in a moment and if it’s as delicious as I’m hoping, perhaps I’ll even go out back and set up the hammock.

Also: Red Sonja is truly an awful movie.  But I assure you, I’m filled with great affection for it.  The metal skirts!  The random nudity!  Ahnold!  The ultimate in whimsical matte-paintings!  What it lacks in good dialog and realistic fight scenes it sure makes up for in sheer fanciful set, costume and hat-design.  I hope the upcoming remake (with Rose McGowan) learns the right lessons….

Ahem.  As I attempt yet a third mix-down of some of Evan Nachimson’s set, I look up from the screen to see Red Sonja in epic battle against the evil queen.  Despite its failings, it doesn’t compare with the sheer failure of more modern bad movies.  With the millions of dollars poured into special effects and models and the occasional computer-generated camel, you’d think that writing a good plot to start with would be the inexpensive part.

I AM looking at you, Michael Bay.  I might even be rapidly approaching you with something heavy in my hand.

The progress bar crawls across my computer as the machine churns multiple tracks into one, applying EQ settings and stereo expansion algorithms.  Recording Heather’s new CD has taught me a lot about my hardware and software and I’m excited to experiment with it further.  Even our practice recordings are beginning to really shine under the influence of a little bit of caution.  Blind Io-forbid I ever slow down and read the directions.

(though I could probably read a BOOK about compression and still not have a good grasp as to how to use it properly)
