Heather “Danger” Lloyd as she appeared 10 years ago when she first joined the band. If someone had turned to me that night and said “btw, she’ll still be in the band a decade from now” I think I’d have been stunned.

Happy Ten Year Anniversary Heather Lloyd.

That’s amazing.

I can’t believe she’s stuck with me for this long.  Of course, it’s a lot more 50 / 50 than it used to be, so at this point we’re sticking to one another.  Thinking about where we’ve gone together, what we’ve done together, what we do together – thinking that almost 1/3 of my entire Life has been spent with this partner, that almost 1/5 of my Life has been spent elbow to elbow with this woman, traveling the country and making music together – that’s nothing short of incredible.  As in, it makes one incredulous.

At the moment I’m sitting in traffic.  I’ve done a lot of that with Heather too, and I’m pretty sure I’ll do it some more.  I don’t know that I’d like that to change.

I’m taking Heather “Danger” Lloyd out to dinner tonight.  It’ll probably be Mexican.  Unless it’s Indian.  It’s her choice.  Maybe it’ll be sushi.  It’s a wild, windy, wet kind of night so something spicy might appeal.  It’ll probably be a working dinner.  Even our off-time is spent talking about gigs and songs and other players, but that’s okay.  It’s pretty much our world.  But we’re not PLAYING tonight.  To all intents and purposes it’s a NIGHT OFF, and both of us are eager for it.

Part of me thinks we should be throwing a party.  Or we should be going somewhere.  Maybe we should be having some ilyDECiversary show or something.  But I think a quiet night out in some dimly-lit restaurant is perhaps more what we’re both really craving.

Over the 10 years we’ve seen a steady 17% business growth every year.  If we saw that continue we’d be averaging about $1200 / gig in another 10 years.  If we gigged as often as we do now that’s a 240k yearly income, but I’d be just as happy to work a little bit less. (at NERFA people were talking about how some people even played ONE HUNDRED GIGS A YEAR!!! – Yeah, we’ve had a year or two with 300 a year – hardest working, most heavily-armed folk band in the world)

Happy Ten Year Anniversary Heather Aubrey Lloyd.  You’re amazing.
