In Ohio I finally opened my birthday presents! From Heather I got a really cool shirt with cyber-tentacles on it (you can’t go wrong with robot squid) and from her mom I got some beautiful socks! Life is once again looking stylish and awesome.

Man: killer headache, failure of internet connectivity, sunshine is BRIGHT and we’re in-between either too-crowded Columbus in the college district or in the too-small Tiffin where we’re pretty sure we won’t have any place to BE till soundcheck.  Maybe I should’ve agreed with the 4.30pm soundcheck after all.  At least it would’ve given us purpose!

We’re in-between places and times and aren’t quite sure what to do with ourselves at the moment.  It’s a bit frustrating, and there’s the horrible realization that even though I was in bed till 11, I probably could’ve slept for another hour.  The headache either feels like caffeine withdrawal (I “only” had half a cup yesterday and haven’t had ANY yet today, so this is actually possible I guess) or lack of sleep, and is probably an unholy combination of both.

Kicking off a tour with two three-hour bar gigs is also kicking our ass a bit.  Even Heather and I haven’t been doing a LOT of these recently and aren’t nearly as in shape for them as we ought to be, and Kristen DEFINITELY is feeling it… add to that 3-5 hour drives every day and it’s a recipe for exhaustion.  There’s a very sad blister on our cellist’s finger – hopefully it will get lonely and go away soon.  Hopefully it WON’T invite friends to feel less isolated.

Tonight’s just two 9s, and it’s house sound, we just show up and smile and play – and tomorrow’s even easier with either 2 7s or maybe just 1 15 (that’s one fifteen song set)… and then Sunday might just be a night OFF (or an open mic in Chicago or Michigan…

I’d kind of like to hit up Michigan just so we can cross the state off our list, but I can’t seem to find anything HAPPENING up there on a Sunday night!)  Tonight’s ALSO a hotel room which should mean about as comfortable as we can be.

Hopefully.

Wow.  That answers that question.  Halfway through my cup of coffee and the headache’s gone.  A decade of being a musician and I’ve finally developed a chemical addiction!

There was even a pool table in our green room! Of course, our green room was the mail and games room and students kept wandering in, but it still felt a bit like star treatment! Heather wiped the table with me. Kristen, sensing ancient rivalries, knew better than to get involved.
