July 8th, 2012.

Our fair percussionist and his blushing bride: Rowan and Kristi got married on July 8th, 2012. Congratulations to them for tying the knot! Rowan was handsome, Kristi was beautiful and weepy – and a damned good party was thrown (in Alelphi, MD)

Well, now Rowan’s married too.  Slowly ilyAIMY falls to the marriage monster and some people think it’s only a matter of time…

I’ve got no complaints about this – probably one of the best weddings of been to.  Ever.  Filled with old friends that have been with Rowan and I for a decade or so, filled with the music we’ve gone through the last third of our Life making together, filled with the food that all our friends make – and they were showing off – it was just a great party.

Oh – and to be clear, it’s not Rowan and I getting married.  It was that WOMAN.

Kristi.  She done concreted her hold on him, so I guess I’ll just back off.  And wait.

(I’m kidding, I’ve Loved watching Rowan and Kristi together for the last many years, I’m very glad they’ve finally tied the knot!)

It was a beautiful ceremony, decorated by friends, catered by friends, officiated by a friend – the cake was made by friends, the food was pot luck and better than I’ve had at any other wedding (thank you high-priced caterers), and then the music at the end of the afternoon was PLOJ-like and awesome.  Heather led us through Winter Bride and Old Love and Stand By Me (with surprising guest-vocals by John the Wedding Photographer), Audrey Engdahl (my first ilyLady) and Brooke Parkhurst (of Tinsmith) led us through Luray Women, John McLoughlin (formerly of Tinsmith) led us through a couple of tunes, Acacia Sears sprung her Lady Gaga on us and Rick Engdahl brought us a tune as well.  Rowan and Sharif took us through The Blacksmith (which I managed to remember by the last verse) and I threw down with Stray Cat Strut (because it’s loud and easy to jam along on), Case of You (because it was asked for) and surprisingly Counting (because Rowan demanded it) – finally putting me into a position of singing the word “fuck” in front of Audrey’s children multiple times.

The temperature was very, very high – I’m so glad that Rowan and Kristi made the last-minute decision to move everything indoors – with the 100+ degree temperatures it really was the only way they weren’t going to have people hospitalized over the course of their special day.  The entire population of wedding guests and wedding party spent much of the day moving from the main floor (which was pretty well air-conditioned till everyone got there) to the upstairs (which was pretty well air-conditioned until everyone got there) and the basement (which was kind of industrial but was delightfully cool and not everyone discovered!), migrating to cooler temperatures, radiating body heat INTO those cooler temperatures, and then migrating again, coming together in large knots for the Events – i.e. the actual ceremony, the cake-cutting, the feeeest, the music, etc.  It would’ve been kind of fun to see a Monty Python illustration of it all.

In any case – a beautiful ceremony – congratulations Rowan and Kristi!!!  May you have long and happy intertwined Lives!

There was an awful lot of mirth – and of course ilyAntics. Sharif and I have been playing together for around 12 years. Heather’s about to celebrate her decade ilyVersary or so – Kristen’s been with us for coming on three years… it’s kind of amazing.
