Today was spent mostly running around. We played a couple of song circles here and there and watched some music, but mostly we gathered Rowan into our clutches, met up with friends and avoided being totally and completely wet.
I still hate camping, though I did eventually get some sleep last night. Tonight we’re going to take advantage of that most fantabulous of all main stage perks: the motel room.
We were surprised – it was further away from the grounds than we were expecting (about 35 minutes or so) and so late night escapes are suddenly looking less likely, but we wanted to make sure we got a decent night’s sleep before our main stage performance on Saturday morning.
The motel was a little bit more hassle than we were expecting too. The owners were (possibly) Japanese and English was NOT their first language and they seemed utterly unable to believe that the four of us were willing to cram into one room (five, counting Kristi). I was kind of afraid we were going to have to take it up with Falcon Ridge and get another room at some other place until the argument came around to giving us “special room” – the one that apparently they put their own family in when THEY’RE in town.
THREE queen beds! The same as the number of channels on the television! It didn’t matter at all, surrounded by 50s road motel décor, exhausted and finally able to get the mud off of our bodies, sleep came quick. Morning still came too soon – but sleep came swift.
A large part of the wonder of hanging with the Lounge Camp is Ethan Baird’s meat. It’s delicious. A large part of the wonder of hanging with the Lounge Camp is Ethan Baird’s meat. It’s delicious. It’s Friday and Rowan and Kristi made it! We’d warned them off last night because they wouldn’t make it in time to set up their tent in the dry (or in the day) – but they popped in bright eyed and bushy tailed the next day. riday is when people really begin to fill in to the festival and the main stage gets into swing. One of the perks of being a mainstage artist – the Falccon Ridge Folk Festival put us up at a motel! Which was all fine and good till we realized our next door neighbours were…. BLUEGRASS MUSICIANS! We took a nap and a shower and ran back to the festival grounds… Breakfast with Blair Bodine. Breakfast with Matt Nakoa…
