Teavolve on a Monday. Good stuff.

I feel bad that I get so stressed out by running late. Especially because I’m in a profession where almost no-one else cares – they generally even expect it. Often as not it’s not even a situation where it matters. I’ll get places with plenty of time, I’ll have time to hurry up and wait, but I’m sweating the mileage, stressing out over red light and fuming over not being able to depart on time.

I think part of it is “fairness”. We don’t Live in a fair world and especially if you’re scrounging for cash, counting pennies and trying to grasp at every straw in your income mosaic – you’re trying to please everyone. You’re at everyone’s pleasure and I’d managed to spend my formative years effectively being beholden to no-one, working jobs where I could come and go as I pleased.  And maybe that’s the key to it – it’s as I pleased.

But I despise running late and it’s probably the one time when I know I’m being unreasonable and seem to be absolutely unable to do anything about it other than sit there and be QUIET. I know everyone around me knows that I’m fuming but there’s no reason I need to be fuming vocally.

Sharif and Mosno.

And of course we got there on time. Actually about 15 minutes early. And I got everything set up and running smoothly and had nothing left to do but sit and worry that no-one was coming. It’s the late February duldrums and populations for tonight and tomorrow are probably destined to be a bit sparse, but the first Old Bowie Town Grille open mic was SO GOOD that even an excellent night tonight’s going to have a little edge of disappointment. I just want to make sure my featured artists have an audience to play to!

And they did! I had to do a little bit of finagling (making sure that the people who’d clustered in to check out Bob’s new bluegrass band [Bob Thomas, owner of the Old Bowie Town Grille] were still there for the featured artist), but people had slowly filtered in through the night till we had a pretty full night. The highlight though was jamming with James Dalton and Michael Ronstadt at the end of the night. It’s just so cool to have players THAT SKILLED having their way with my music.  Absolutely delicious.

It was a slow start at the second Old Bowie Town Grille open mic, but I had my ladies so I wasn’t too worried. (thanks to Mark for the photo!).
At the end of their set, Michael Ronstadt and James Dalton pulled everyone they could get their hands on up to the stage at my Old Bowie Town Grille Open Mic in Bowie, MD. From left-to-right – JD, Noni, Herbie, Michael Ronstadt, James Dalton and Kristen Jones.
