At the end of the show, we were relaxing in the kitchen and our hosts finally released their cats. Selkie here came down the stairs and just as I was being told “oh, and Selkie’s really shy” this mammal got really pushy about needing my hands-on Love. Our hosts were kind of stunned. I think she knew I have a song named after her.

Well Heather’s cold is continuing to kick her ass, leaving us concerned about the last two performances of the tour. Tomorrow at Coffee Amici actually shouldn’t be too bad. Whatever the cold takes away Craig can counter for with his exquisite house sound, but tonight it’s a house concert – where “house sound” means just the sound of the house – i.e. totally naked noise.

For as much as I’ve been absolutely in love with playing house concerts recently, the microphone would be a really helpful crutch right – especially as my OWN sinuses are getting attacked by Midwest allergens. I can feel the itch in my eyes and I’ve had a couple of explosive sneezes in the last couple of days. All the cars are coated in a thick yellow film and the air is getting hazier. As we head to Indianapolis I keep hoping the next town’s a little bit behind the last one seasonally speaking, but I think the march of spring and summer is well past inevitable.

Wow. So – I took a quick shower after our Flying Cat gig and in the time it took me to towel off and return to our accomodations for the night our hosts had retreated to bed. However, they’d left Heather with a mysterious message: “Tell rob to look in that closet”. Oookaaaaay. I opened the door upon a beautiful nerdvana of gamer paraphenalia. Shelves of Dungeons and Dragons (including this first edition boxed set), miniatures, maps, cards… even a small shrine ro Eric Idle. Apparently there’s a weekly gaming group and I’m not a part of it. Last night’s show at the World of Beer in Columbus was a little deader than our previous outings there. Still, the slightly toned-down night was probably preferable as we just weren’t quite able to output the energy we’re known for. Still, our fans were excited and we captured new ones as well. A biker named John told us the tale of putting a drunk through a plate glass window and how that’s effected his fingerpicking. Another new friend named TJ who had been listening intently all night and then just LIT UP with the opening chords of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box”. And of course it was great to see Jason and Alissa and Adam and Matt…

The haze up ahead on I-70 promises that Indianapolis is going to be every bit as pollentastic as Columbus and I think my first stop at Flying Cat tonight is going to have to be the bathroom with a washcloth to just try to rinse out my eyeballs.  Urgh.

My Monday night open mic has lost its featured artist to a scheduling conflict. It’s too late to be troubled with putting someone else in the slot and frankly that’s just fine. Acacia Sears said something in passing some covers she’d started off playing when she was younger and I thought we’d try a themed night – nothing crazy: it’ll be the usual setup but you get an extra song if one of those tunes is from the theme artist. I could imagine really liking that as a regular thing, perhaps not making it be coupled to not having a featured artist, but perhaps if the feature has an artist that they plan to cover over the course of the night perhaps they can choose the theme artist…

My brain likes it. It might be confusing. On the other hand I LIKE introducing a little confusion to my guests….

Okay. Enough out of me. If I’m lucky I’ll rest my itchy eyes and catch a bit of snoozery before we hit Indy.  Snoof.
