I am a sleeeeepy button. But it’s time to run my open mic. In the last month (35 days) I’ve had no day “off”. I’ve had 6 nights where I wasn’t playing music, but five of those nights I recorded music, and one night I attended a meeting ABOUT music. Thursday is the 4th of July, so I’m not sure if it counts or not, but it will be my first day off in over a month. Actually staring at the calendar and realizing this is making the feeling of exhaustion seem a lot more sensible. I get it. I’m a little burnt out.
I’m not sure that it totally shows in any way. I’m having a little bit of trouble with my enthusiasm and my body’s definitely feeling it right now as over the past 16 days I’ve played 12 of them. My fingers are sore, my spine just aches from hauling gear and my voice feels permanently warmed up. I guess the latter’s a good thing….
Generally I LIKE the feeling of abused parts that playing a lot gives me, but at the moment I’m definitely feeling a bit worn down. My bank account feels nicely padded and in general my world’s pretty comfortable, but I’m ready for a break.
Thursday. The Fourth of July. As long as we have the sense to take it easy and not stress ourselves out over the fireworks it should be really, really, really delicious.
Mmm. Speaking of delicious I picked up a bottle of chocolate covered maple smoked bacon soda. Wait. Did I say delicious? That’s DEFINITELY a sign that I’m pretty fucking burnt OUT.
Heather and I played two shows at Magnolia’s at the Mill in Purcellville, VA. The first night was kind of a …. bar gig…. the second night was a LOT of fun. Both nights the food was exquisite and the setting spectacular. Above – after we were done and the place was closed down I could get a couple of better shots of the space…. This baby praying mantis kept us company overnight, but couldn’t defend us against the GIANT WASP that went for us in the morn! Despite the wasp, staying in Charles Town was not without its benefits…. sugar gliders and electric guitars for meeee! The neighbour’s cat welcomes me home…
