Good morning! Last night I pet a beagle and pet a moth and drank good whiskey and had a cookie that really, really SMELLED good. Oh – and we played a pretty wonderful house concert as well. Oh – and we finished the CD. It went to press. All that shit. My brain is sloooowly de-stressing, but what I could really use is like a WEEK just AWAY. Even a tour would be fine – I need a break from my weird-ass routine!
Last Sunday I ran my open mic, came home, mixed audio till 3am. Monday I got up crazy-early-for-me and went into the studio and we mixed audio all day till it was time for me to run my open mic. Then I came home and mixed audio till 1am. Tuesday I got up crazy-early-for-me and went into Airshow and MASTERED the CD till we could master no more – and then got suckered into helping out at HMT till close. Then I came home and REmixed some audio that I wasn’t happy with till around 1am. And then Wednesday I got up CEFM and mastered some MORE till it was DONE. We uploaded everything and then I went home and … and I don’t even remember. Because Thursday I got up pretty early, got on the phone with Discmakers to make sure everything was running smoothly, then drove down to Takoma Park and grimaced at the resurgence of 95 degrees and high humidity – set up sound, ran sound, played a show, broke down the sound, drove to Frederick, grimaced at the parking, set up the sound, ran sound, played a show, broke down the sound, drove home and collapsed into bed at around 3am. Friday morning I got up early, checked my email, went back to sleep. Got up a little later, checked my email, went back to sleep… at around 11.30am the proofs finally came in from Discmakers. I looked them over once, twice – three times… and approved them.
That’s pretty damned eventful. The rest of Friday was spent doing band office work and… mixing audio… and watching old episodes of Star Trek. It was a good day. Satisfying. Saturday was more of the same till it was time to go that house concert in Ellicott City. It was kind of wonderful to just go play some place about 15 minutes down the road in the idyllic woods surrounding Ellicott City. It was absolutely beautiful, a very fun show, and of course there were moths and beagles and whiskey. As I mentioned before.
Sharif and Joanna’s first child is due today. We’re waaaaiting. I’m on bird-watch duty and have to FLY INTO ACTION feeding the bird when they head off to the hospital. Phone’s on. I check it regularly. Lots of other phone calls. Nothing about the spawnening yet… it’s a good weekend!
The morning after wrapping up the new album, I spent the morning on the phone making sure everything’s going to run properly and then race yet AGAIN to Takoma Park, MD to set up for a show at the Old Town Gazebo. We have a breakdancing opening act, play our little hearts out and then break everything down and race out to Frederick to perform at a new-to-us venue called Firestone’s. Unfortunately it was exhaustingly hot and humid with a “feels like” temperature of close to a hundred – we didn’t QUITE get up to our usual speed… ilyAIMY performing at Bonnie Branch house concerts in Ellicott City, MD. Beautiful setting, a very fun show. ALWAYS judge a house concert by it’s book shelf!
Maybe I kinda get it why sometimes people confuse Kristi and Kristen. Nice full “parking lot” for our house concert in Ellicott City, MD. Set up for a beautiful evening at the Concerts on Bonnie Branch house concert series in Ellicott City, MD. This turned into an absolutely beautiful night on the night that we were expecting to get news of Sharif’s new baby’s birth! A not so wee moth grew attached to my finger after our show at Bonnie Branch. I guess I’d led him on a bit, but I tried to make my feelings clear – eventually having to be quite firm in my efforts to remove him.
