Heather playing at Magnolia’s At the Mill in Purcellville, VA.

An inauspicious last gig of the first decade. Playing to a very, very dead crowd in Purcellville, VA – made only bearable by absolutely exquisite food and the presence of our friends Eva and Ari who’ve come out to see us perform tonight. There are nights when I feel on top of the world, there are others when I don’t. The staff Love us, but this is the last night they’ll be having Live music because the crowds they get just… don’t…. care!  We were informed the first time we’d played at this venue that “on a good night I don’t get any complaints about the musicians”… and sure enough that’s what we’ve come to expect.  Still, tonight’s pretty remarkable.

So – happy ten years! I know the math is kind of weird sometimes – there was Heather’s decaversary, and Rowan’s been with me longer and Sharif’s been with me even LONGER – and Kristen joined the band in September of 2009 so she’s got a loooong way to go to catch up – but I really count from September 2nd, 2003. That was the date that Heather and I left on a grand adventure not really knowing what was ahead of us. And we passed through Maryland a fair amount over the next five years – but it was five amazing years. The five years since then have been remarkable too – but much more sedentary. I’m really, really, really looking forward to 2014. There’s a sense of wonder thinking that … well Hell … we’ve made it through TEN YEARS. Nothing can pull it apart now!

Of course Sharif’s having a kid. And Rowan’s got some excitement on the horizon too (we’ll keep you in the dark until the Announcement!) – the face of ilyAIMY doesn’t look like it’s going to change though. We’re malleable but we mesh and we miss one another when we’re away. Kristen and I will be taking a trip to Texas in January and plan to enjoy the geography for a bit and play open mics here and there to boot… but then it’s back to work as Heather and I slowly sketch out the path to and from the west coast. 2014 is going to be a monster.
