Sunday – it’s the day of the Takoma Park Folk Festival and though we’re not playing this year, I’m really really proud to be involved.
This is Kipyn Martin, who I’d only discovered earlier this year thanks to a random sound gig with the Songwriters Association of Washington. She’s possibly my favourite voice on the scene right now. Art Isaacs. Dave Eisner. Shannon Bishop. The Honest Mistakes playing it cool. Judy Oliver. Ronn McFarlane. Ayreheart. Kristen and Kara of Lulu’s Fate getting ready to take the stage. Cousin John Band’s drummer and his “tattooed” daughter – Lulu’s Fate Lulu’s Fate takes the stage at the Takoma Park Folk Festival, and over the time that I was wandering around, may well have had the strongest crowd of the day. After Kristen got off stage it was time to wrap up and get to another gig, but they were one of the highpoints of the whole day. Shannon Bishop dancing to the tunes of Lulu’s Fate. Cousin John Band The Takoma Park Folk Festival isn’t just filled with amazing music – I’ve really become part of a community here and as I wandered from stage to stage to stage, I stumbled across plenty of good friends. Avril Smith (Big Chimney) with her custom squid guitar the jolly Gino Abellanosa! Juels Bland at the Takoma Park Folk Festival
