My feature was late tonight. Like – to the point that I had already written him off and we were moving on with the night – and then he showed up 40 minutes before the end of the night. I was pissed until he told me what’d happened. His guitarist (who’d been who had been in touch with me and arranging the night) had broken up the band but encouraged the singer to go ahead and play it alone. Since the breakup had been pretty bad, the singer was flattered by this gesture and accepted. The guitarist said “it’s all worked out with rob, you need to be there by 10”… yeah … set the guy up for rolling it right as the venue closes. Nice.
Well – he showed up and played and his voice and performance were powerful – even beautiful – but it pisses me off what we do to one another.
