November 9th, 2016.

a dark day.

This be a great road in neutral ‘cept the locals sure are up in arms about something.

So, it’s the morning of November 9th, about 1.30am. Kristen’s just gotten home and Donald Trump appears to be kicking ass and… well… he’s been taking names for the last year and a half. A few FriendsTM on Facebook see this as the best thing ever, and they’re celebrating – most of them are evening doing it civilly with a “yay us” kind of mentality. But there’s a couple so glad to declare “the bitch is dead” with rancor and fervor, showing that though we STILL don’t know what kind of Donald Trump we’re likely to get in office, it looks like the popular left-wing conception was correct about at least some of his followers.

I mean – we knew that of course.

Tomorrow : Nothing changes. The stock market will plummet but maybe it’ll get its head back in the game and figure itself out.

Everyone who wanted Trump to lose will point fingers, blaming those who stayed home, third-party candidates, the media, social media…  they’ll blame the DNC, they’ll blame Bernie for giving in. They’ll blame the GOP. Hell, maybe we should point the finger at the head of the FBI, the last-minute terror threats and the thought that Trump had hit squads at the poles. I’ll kind of blame Jon Stewart for not running.

January 20th : Well. Things start changing. If Trump’s good to his word he’ll sue newspapers and women left and right. He’ll probably be the most litigious president ever to take office.

If he’s true to his word.

My impression is that he won’t be. Clearly about half the country believes he will. Maybe he’ll push hard to have charges filed against Hillary. I have the suspicion there will be a number of petty lawsuits and petty executive orders.

And the next four years : I somehow can’t imagine our scandal-free White House of the past eight years will persevere as stainless as it has been. Sure, there’s been political scandal, but Obama and his family have been a class act. I shudder to think of what kind of parties Trump will throw, and what kind of decorations he’ll install. We’ve handed him the nation on a silver platter. He thinks it ought to be gold.

Eight years ago, as the Democratic Party took over the Senate, the House AND the Presidency, I’m sure the right thought it was Armageddon. According to what I’ve heard, many of them think the past eight years HAVE been the end of the world. Somehow they’ve maintained hold of their guns, which seems to be the only concern, but they’re not happy because gay marriage somehow threatens straight marriage, ISIL hasn’t been bombed out of existence (merely cut in half) and the Blacks are making scary noises.

I’m simplifying because I’m sad.

Kristen and I popped out to Erie, PA to visit our friends Chris and Joylene for the weekend and played a show at the Juice Jar just a couple of blocks from the lake!
