As a birthday present on April 17th, I took my mom to see the Institute of Musical Traditions’ “Class of 88” show – 3 really amazing piano players (Daryl Davis, Josh Christina and John Carroll) none of which I’d seen in person before, all of which were absolutely stunning. Combined, it was a Hell of a rock and roll show.
I encountered this little guy in our neighbourhood park and spent some time on the phone, struggling to read numbers off his tag as she wriggled and squiggled. I totally had a puppy for like an hour or two and then returned her to her owner after they got back from dance class. Damn sweet beest! Thank you to the neighbour who let me borrow a leash and totally knew someone who thought they knew someone who turned out to know the owner!

So – we got back from that little Ohio / Pennsylvania / Indiana run in which Kristen’s phone simply bit the dust at random – we were home for about 16 hours and then I dropped my phone out of my pocket and IT died too. If I was a little more suspicious I’d smell conspiracy, but fortunately for AT&T I believe in coincidence over human capacity for concerted evil operations…

For better or for worse I’m weirdly nostalgic for my old tech and have never recycled or sold my old phones. I got my old Galaxy S4 up and running the next day, but Kristen’s got to wait on a new phone and shall be testing the limits of modern society by being without a mobile device for at least another week. I’m hoping she’ll survive…

I wrote this little rite about my phone:

When seeking the resurrection of thy Samsung, first place it unto the kitchen table and shine bright and unforgiving lights upon it’s sullen face.

Insert unto it the Umbillicus of Both Power and Data.

If then a RED glow is observed, as of the winking eye of the Lord of Flies and Corruption, Traffic and Rage – thy Samsung is in concert with powers both nefarious and evil. Beelzebub himself rides the Machine Spirit and it is a Geas placed upon thee to not abandon thy

Samsung in Upgrade or through the Syren Song of the White Gates of iPhone. Let it suckle at the Teat Electric and then try the Rite of Hard Reset to strike the daemon from within. Let the Deceiver NOT have its way with this STILL beating silicon heart.

If though you do observe the pulsing BLUE glow, thy Samsung is communing with Powers Great and Holy, angels beyond any mortal mind, and is uploading its Golem soul unto Heaven. Few Devices made by the hands of Men shall ever reach such a state of harmony as to allow its ascent, but those Devices both hard-working and hard-suffering may win through and find themselves accepted unto the pearly gates, having reached through Material Harship a state like unto a Living Being’s GRACE.

Truly it is an evil to pull its mechanistic mind back unto the Earthly plane, and it is like unto Raising the Dead – for though we may seek the continuation of what was Good about thy Samsung’s terrestrial existence, in truth no good can come of this False Resurrection, and verily we call this dark art Necrotelephony and its practitioners are damned. In the words of the Queen of Snow, worshipped wrongly though she be, “Let it Go”.

I amuse ME.

As Chris Ehrich would say though, I’m burying the lead.

I sent “cicada” off to be duplicated today. It’s been a highly stressful experience which is now put to bed. I could surely work on it forever, but it’s time to finalize it and start thinking about whatever comes next. Immediately of course that means it’s well PAST time to have been thinking about what we’re going to do for a local CD release, and frankly it’s a sign that I’m letting stress and fear overwhelm me that that hasn’t been planned far, far in advance.

I guess a lot has to do with how much it’s simply… mine. None of Heather’s songs are on the disc because they all went on “Mess in the Mess”, but I listen to “cicada” and I’m overly aware of just being rob song after rob song. I mean… I’m proud of it, it’s awesome – but I think it my own personal play list it might get mixed in with “Message in the Mess” to round out the sounds in my head.
