Thursday Annette Wasilik had invited me as one third of her Riverdale Railroad music series along with herself and Dylan Galvin. I’ll be honest – I was downright intimidated to share a stage with Dylan, and as the weather firmed up with thunder and lightning and hail, I just knew that on top of everything else we weren’t going to have much of a turnout. Racing down to Riverdale Park, clouds piling in from the East, thunderheads piling in from the West, I careened south down the parkway. I must admit I was being an injudicious driver to arrive 10 minutes ahead of Google’s estimate… but with the news reporting quarter-sized hail I was inspired!
The show itself was better than I’d expected – though we STARTED the night with more performers (3) than performees (2) people did trickle in till we had a nice little, completely enthralled audience. Moment three occurred betwixt me and Dylan jamming on his cover of a John Mayer tune of all things, and his playing along with me on Elephant Joke. It’s why I Love music so much. He and I really don’t know one another, but for a couple of hours in a little bookstore, we meshed and let fly, and we had a relationship as intimate and passionate as any first, second… or maybe third date.
