Wednesday July 26th my friend Brennan and I went on a Mandate. It means we leave the wives and fiances at home and go and do something together, usually with the idea that we’ll discuss some matters of import and probably imbibe a moderate amount of alcohol. OH how times have changed! Tonight Brennan took me to see a bunch of bands at Ottobar in Baltimore, MD. His friends were opening the night and we figured we’d support, not having any idea what the rest of the night was like – but damn am I glad we went. The two last bands, specifically were mindblowing. Above – Liberata. Their guitarist was one of the best I’ve ever seen. The rest of the band was really great, led by a fabulous vocalist, but I really have never seen anyone play this sort of swing rock lead playing that their guitarist threw down with. It was awe-inspiring.

Good morning to the world. I’m kind of buzzy from a late night, not-so-early morning. Listening to a playlist of friends’ music that I’ve put together for another friend looking for inspiration for her television program in California. Sneezing uncontrollably.  Happy Friday.

Heather’s up at Falcon Ridge and I’m a little bit jealous of how much stuff she must be infused with at the moment, but it’s absurd how much satisfaction I get out of our Firestone’s gigs. Three hours of playing whatever we please, playing hard and fast to keep the bar crowd happy. Pushing voice and fingers without the breaks that normally come from having Heather at my side, I imagine this is what it feels like getting a lot of exercise for people who… like doing that stuff.

The last act of the night on the 26th of July was a band called Heroine. The two women who led it were really fantastic band leaders, very charismatic – very powerful – but the drummer really did it with me. Precise, creative and POWERFUL – and doing it all in a tiny black cocktail dress and heels. With both acts I was discouraged from picking up an album because apparently they’re both actually just duos – and the rest of the act were just hired guns. No clue WHAT the discs would’ve been… I wanted what I saw! (Yes, I know we have this problem with ilyAIMY…) – Also – there have got to be a billion bands called “Heroine” and searching “heroine” and “Baltimore” does NOT bring you music-related links.

Yeah, if I got this kind of satisfied high out of lifting or running or whatever else I’d be all svelte and fit – alas, no. Give me my guitar and 2 1000 watt speakers and I’m a jolly beast.

That being said, it IS a three hour bar gig, and I’m generally too wired to sleep afterwards, and my fingers are sore, my back is sore, I only slept about five hours before the construction woke me up and my brain’s not really swimming into focus yet today, though I’ve got plenty of work to do, I got a call from my stock broker (why do they always just say “please call me”, why don’t they ever give me details?) and in general I’m just wishing my Friday felt like other peoples’ Fridays. I remember Fridays. Today feels like Sunday. Like… I know I’ve got work to get done today, but tomorrow my work week truly starts and all I want to do today is kick back and watch Star Wars. Twice.

Below – a lot of our friends and fans are getting married right now. As we say, “they’ve got the nups”. And so ilyAIMY’s been asked to play a lot of nuptual gigs – which has been a learning process. This is a wedding for our friends Mariah and Sarah and there were Christmas lights and pinatas and twerking. Everything you ought to have at a wedding. Also – thunderstorms and ilyAIMY. Happy Nups! July 27th, 2017 in Martinsburg, WV.

On July 29th ilyAIMY was asked to play a friend’s birthday party. Though the day started out grey and dismal and very, very windy – things cleared up and we got to play to a Lovely audience on a Lovely day. Things got a little tense when they proved themselves to be NOT Lovely at making Chinese lanterns go… but after they stopped lighting things on fire and the local farmland proved too damp to ignite they started throwing fireworks in the firepit. At this point we decided it was time to make our way home. Swiftly.
