A friend asked a question about stereo venue audio environments… someone answered with one of the most intriguing statements I’ve seen in a while : “I suspect that remote listening hardware will become one of the first and most popular cybernetic enhancements embraced by humans. When it’s use becomes widespread, it will open up a plethora of opportunities.” No real comment on it – just intrigued – and yet I’m very aware that if and when cybernetic attachments ever come within my reach (financially speaking, mostly) I’m going to have a hard time resisting.

I’m pretty fascinated by some kickstarters floating around right now that use your smartphone to filter Live sound, allowing you not only variable hearing protection and in-ear audio play from your phone, but realtime manipulation, amplification, EQ control to allow for speech clarity or simply to get better audio out of a concert experience. Throw that concept into your smartglasses… not literally augmentation, but tightly integrated exterior hardware… I want to be superhuman and I want to be superhuman NOW! Damn the monthly payments!
