Just an update.

Damn. And of COURSE WordPress inserts it all exactly INVERSE to my intention. Bah.

Mike Duck “Not For Coltrane” opening for ilyAIMY at the New Deal Café on Friday, July 6th.
ilyAIMY (sans Heather) soundchecking at New Deal Café. Wonderful night with a lot of people remarking on how passionate we were as performers. Met a Goddard Space Flight Center employee who, though he didn’t know my dad, knew his work. He was particularly inspired by us and we had a great talk.
Since Heather’s in Madison, WI competing as an Emerging Artist at the National Women’s Music Festival Rowan and I have the task of being the first Thursday artist at Firestone’s. The first third of the show was STUPID crammed. The second third was PLEASANTLY crammed. But we canned the last third because partway through the second third of the first Thursday, there was a medical emergency down the block and EMS closed the street off so they could get a hook and ladder truck to Brewer’s Alley to get a gurney up to their new rooftop bar. Things pretty much emptied out after that. Rowan and I had an awful lot of fun though and are looking forward to doing it again NEXT month (when Heather’s at Falcon Ridge).
My featured artist for Monday July 2nd at Teavolve – Renee Dion of Columbus, OH was absolutely worth the trouble. She brought a piano player and a DJ and an electronic percussionist and multiple fans. Not people. Fans. For ripply shirt effects. And she was amazing.
Perfect lighting (for a given, artistic value of “perfect”) for Elena Grey at Teavolve on July 2nd.
I don’t have photos of the performance cause I was filming! I learned I couldn’t crouch with my knees touching the pavement because I’d burn them. I stepped back under the shade whenever I saw stars. Most of my cameras failed because it was too hot for them to function. It was a rough day.
Kristen’ playing cello with Mark Rooney’s #randomactsoftaiko on July 1st, 2018.
Oh my GOD IT’S HOT. Like, insanely hot. 110 degrees or so with the heat index and I’m filming our friend Mark Rooney’s taiko group on the steps of the National Archives in Washington DC.
For all that went right and all that went wrong on June 30th’s show at Hershey’s, one thing that I absolutely Loved was the cake. Why was there cake? Why did we go back there? Well – because our friends we getting married and they were doing it AT Hershey’s. We’d been asked specifically to play that date for their wedding and… well, I know what it’s like to have your band cancel on your wedding!
In any case, the show itself was mostly a lot of fun. Still, I hate it when people touch my stuff. I had to catch my Thump after a very very drunk woman (who’d been ousted twice by the bartender) FINALLY tripped over my speaker.
Still, the staff and booker were so apologetic, making an impassioned plea to have us return… well, I guess we’ll see where it goes.
OH – and the groom is a drummer. We covered one of his band’s songs for the celebration!
I’m not sure what the cat thinks is going to happen here. Though climbing inside the refrigerator tends not to be a thing, sleeping in front of it IS – and he likes to look into what we’re looking at. He also sleeps in front of the pantry – but I think he generally only does this when he wants to be fed. Like… he’s worried that we might get him food and he won’t notice so he sleeps BETWEEN us and his delicious morsels.
