An incredible night at Teavolve where some really amazing pieces were in play. Jeff Miller was my feature – and he’s an amazing performer, killer guitarist, and just kind of a sweet guy – but he was my feature, so I KNEW he was popping in… but holy crap – it’s Daniel Roberts! We haven’t seen him in about three years and having him drop in out of the blue was an extremely welcome surprise. I used this as inspiration to make sure I don’t lose the connection and invite him on a ManDate – cause we don’t just go and have lunch with our friends enough.

And then… the soul killers.

Man – so 8×10 was amazing. And then Festivus was painful. The sound was so bad that even though I had a backup instrument, when I broke a string with 10 minutes left in the set, rather than nab my Alvarez off the stand I just had us break down and get the fuck off the stage. There was no reason to continue subjecting my band to that feedback and there was no way anyone was liking the brittle, glassy sound of our eviscerated tones…

New Deal… meh… Teavolve was AMAZING!

But then playing these Hilton Residence Inn shows in Baltimore – they’re SO hit and miss – and Tuesday’s was a MISS. The hotel, though it’d advertised us and the bar – didn’t bother to staff the bar – and we basically played to ourselves through the evening.

But Heather makes it LOOK good.

Wednesday night was hard too – a killer line up of great music – Jeff Miller was once again a part of the night at Ron Goad’s marvelous Songwriters Association of Washington Showcase at Epicure Cafe – and this time *I* was the featured artist – but what meagre turnout there was bled away as I performed.

I’m not going to say I cried on the way home – but I’m not going to say I didn’t. I got home, kissed my wife, went downstairs and thought about just deleting ilyAIMY.com and being the fuck done with things. I went on Amazon and ordered my primary colours in acrylic paints, some gesso and sat back thinking about how I just want to paint rabbits.

Prince tried to make it better. He pointed out that in the last 20 days I’d played out for 18 of them and that maybe, just maybe I was just feeling a touch burned-the-fuck-out.
Thursday, after my existential crisis I took my wife out to Columbia Lake Front for dinner and a show. Oh – and some beautifully drizzly, almost Scottishish weather.
I’ve taken my wife to the Soundry – to check out the venue, and to see Jeffrey Foucault! But first – a really marvelously quirky opening act.
Yup. In the front.
Jeffrey Foucault. Ignore that he’s got one of the best voices out there. Maybe even ignore that he’s brought the most amazing pedal steel player I’ve ever heard. This is the best sounding venue I’ve ever been in.  The Soundry, friends – go listen. Cause you can HEAR.

And then…

upComing & inComing
