I’m proud to present Chuck the Madd Ox as my feature for Dr Martin Luther King Jr Day. Teavolve presents community-builder, vocal percussionist, hip hop artist, spoken word wizard & general all-around great guy Chuck the Madd Ox. Teavolve’s acknowledged by VisitBaltimore.org as one of the top Black-owned restaurants in Baltimore, and on Monday nights we try hard to make sure that all are welcome. Come celebrate with us. Come listen. Or come play. Signup at 6, performances from 7-10pm. PG-13, no amps or drumkits. Chuck the Madd Ox performs stories of stark contrast woven with a unique sense of humor that pull nerd culture, metal, rap, sex, violence and the inherent tension of being black in today’s America together in a whirlwind of words… If you’re lucky, you might even get the best poem you’ll ever hear about tear-away pants. Tonight Chuck’s vocals will be joined by Kristen Jones on electric cello and Dave Benham on Native American-style flutes.
T’was a rough night to be honest. I got started by losing a couple of lyrics and it seemed to be catching. Even Chuck wasn’t immune! Still, if I could give that man the stage he deserved, I wouldn’t hesitate, and I’d have him again in a heartbeat.
