Some upDates…

February 5th found me taking my entire day to drive down to Falls Church, VA to play at JV’s as their open mic featured artist. Previously I’d been exposed to this as being a primarily singer/songwriter-oriented event – but tonight they had BOTH kinds of music : Country AND Western – and I felt pretty out of place. That being said, a lot of the players were truly stunning (it’s a genre that reminds me that a good player can do ANYTHING in first position) and I met a couple of drummers and even a pedal steel player (doing a wonderful Melotron impersonation in the Del Shannon tune “Runaway”) – but all-in-all probably not a hugely awesome way to spend the last hours of my 43rd year.

Happy rob Day!!!

My new car!!!

The band gathered their resources and surprised me with the James Bond 007 Lego Aston Martin!!! I had forgotten the thrill of opening a Lego set and laying out the pieces – and Kristen’s never put together a Lego set at ALL – so this was kind of an adventure.

The Aston Martin is broken into four stages and we worked through about one stage per James Bond movie, sticking to the flicks with the Aston Martin DB5 in it of course. We kicked off with Goldfinger and had a chassis put together… by the end of Thunderball we had a couple of doors and a secret phone! Lest you think our rate of progress pathetic, keep in mind we were also taking breaks to scroffle the cat and eat the chocolate cake my mom sent me!

February 9th, 2019 in Takoma Park, MD.

We frankly really, really needed a show like this. Rowan joined us for a wonderful show at Cabin Concerts, a house concert series in Takoma Park, MD. We played to a packed house – and if it wasn’t TECHNICALLY “sold out” – any additional comers would’ve been sitting on the floor in the kitchen – I don’t know that there are any pics of the performance – but here we are sound checking and setting up…

February 11th, 2019 at Teavolve w Conor Brendan.

So February 11th I was SUPPOSED to be playing in Frederick, MD and Heather was supposed to be guest-hosting my open mic night. I was always back-and-forth on this because Conor Brendan is one of my favourite Baltimore voices and I was sad to miss him… but then the snooooows came. My show got snowed out, but that’s okay cause Heather got snowed IN and I had to take care of my open mic after all!

After my open mic I took my time coming home and stopped to take a couple of photographs of the local town encased in ice…
