It’s the nature of the job at our level – or maybe at any level? I mean one day you’re playing stadium gigs for sold out arenas and ten years on you’re playing country fairs, right? Well – on our level it’s even MORE of a roller coaster.
Thursday night it was a two thousand-seat hundred-year-old theatre with full sound crew and a stage manager carrying our stuff from our reserved parking spaces – and Friday night we’re schlepping our stuff a block and a half from an over-priced parking spot in Adams Morgan, pushed back by an hour by a Rupaul Drag Race watch party, watching the audience like a hawk to make sure no-one stumbles over your monitor or throws up on the merch.
And yet – we still had a great time! Seasons and Sessions is the new (and vastly upgraded) Black Squirrel – new management, new menu, new sound system and it’s one of those nights where you invade other peoples’ nights and make them special. A wedding party wanders in around midnight and the officiant apparently didn’t make an allowance for their first dance – and so we play for them and become a part of a wedding… we lead interesting Lives and I’d have it no other way.
Though… you know… maybe a FEW more of the big theatre gigs please…
