April 1st, 2019 at Teavolve w Jeff Miller.
Another fantastic night at Teavolve. With about 15 performers total and Jeff Miller as my feature, how could it not be? Jeff’s usual Baltimore host wasn’t in town, having been deployed [thank you for your service] so Jeff came home with me and Kristen.
It was a welcome visit. He’s chill and understated despite his towering height and it was kind of a pleasure to have him around. We talked picks and guitars and he doesn’t know Star Wars and I don’t know history and that’s okay. Really enjoyed getting to know the off-stage man after having been a fan of the on-stage version for so many years.
Btw – Jeff is the kind of person who WILL go out of his way for his food hugger.
It hugs his food.
April 2nd, 2019 at the Depot.
I rolled up to Mosno’s place on Tuesday afternoon ready to nab him – tonight I’m the featured artist at the Depot and Mosno agreed to come along and play djembe with me. I was grateful to have the company – but as I rolled up to his place, next to a park, in the midst of (and one of) a whole section of gorgeous houses… I find it swarming with cops.
Apparently just a couple of hours before I drove over, his next-door neighbour had come home, begun to unload her groceries and then been approached by another car. Two men got out, threatened her with a gun, took her keys and proceeded to purse-nap and car-jack her. She raced to her house and frantically got her housemate to let her in as the (attempted) car jackers stutter-start her vehicle, realizing that none of them can drive a stick.
Frustrated, they wait at her car glowering up at the house where she’s frantically calling the police, and their wheelman pulls back up and picks them up a couple of minutes later.
By the time I got there they were towing her car so they could do a complete forensic look-see of the vehicle and the whole area was just CRAWLING with police cars. I couldn’t help but think that if I’d made that call from MY neighbourhood we’d have been lucky if they’d done more than just file a report…
One cruiser in particular seemed to be intercepting me at every turn, and as Mosno and I made our way out of the neighbourhood we encounted this one car four times, once forcing me to back up half a block to let him through because he was going to be driving down the CENTER of the street come Hell or high Saturn.
Finally getting to the Depot was something of a relief, and we had a good time even though I threw a number of songs out that we hadn’t practiced at all… it just seemed that kind of night.
Christian Alfonso again. Wind-blown rob. Meg!
Thanks to Meg who did more than just HOLD my camera!
