April 8th at Teavolve w Heather Aubrey Lloyd.
Mostly with the idea that I wanted to demonstrate an ability to capture some good Heather video, Monday night I had Heather as my featured artist… I didn’t take a lot of photos of HER because I was busy doing THIS :
Mike on the mic. Welcome Chuck the Madd Ox! The Dave show. Some more Chuck. Zander. Cynthia P. A surprise visit from Kosi! And Matt Holsen to boot! He’s moving to Baltimore!
So this is new. Prince has never jumped up on my computer desk before. The beast is getting sassy. But maybe it’s my fault. I do leave socks on him.
April 12th, the Root Studio Open Mic.
I was going to go and do this with my friend Daniel Roberts, but he called out sick from our ManDate and I ended up going out alone. For as awkward as I am as a solo entity, I spent some time wandering the parking lot taking pictures of flowers before gathering my courage and going on in…

The Root Studio is a pretty amazing facility. I must admit I spent a fair amount of time in Ashville, NC thinking “why isn’t there stuff like this back HOME!” and … well, I just discovered that there IS! A “wellness centre” that does writing workshops, painting workshops, photography, video, audio engineering and more… their open mic was about 50 / 50 music and poetry but just being in the space highlighted a LOT of what else this place has to offer. If I had money I think I’d already be a member!
April 14th – Savor Bowie.
Wine tasting festival thingie. Most of the other bands seemed to be high-grade cover acts, but the band right after us on the Sears Stage was really really great : High-Brid is an African-American rap-on-metal act with some absolutely fierce players. We bonded. It was good.
