One of the rarest of all beests, a solo singing bass player! Mark James!

Tonight was a slow night, but it filled in, but it filled in slowly, but it filled in with the perfect people. No offense to all y’all that weren’t there, but it really was a Lovely night. A couple of new performers (though unfortunately, my list went AWOL at the end of the night, so I’d have to comb through room mics for their names, which I ain’t gonna do) and a few regulars, and a couple of long-lost souls who I’d forgotten how much I’d missed.

Featured artists are made possible through donations by our in-house audience and Focus Music – www.focusmusic.org.

The Teavolve Café & Lounge open mic happens just about every Monday at Teavolve, signup at 6pm, performances from 7-10pm. 2 songs / 10 minutes whichever’s shorter, with a PG13 environment – and is hosted by rob Hinkal of the band ilyAIMY. Rob’s Open Mics were declared a National Open Mic by Shure Microphones, “Best of DC” from Dcmusicdownload.com and have received recognition from the Library of Congress. Richard’s been in the audience for a LONG time now, and is great to chat with, but has always said he PRACTICES all the time, but he’s just not ready…. well, tonight he was ready! We pushed and cajoled and he came up and played a couple of surprisingly elegant instrumentals!

Ashleigh Chevalier:

I think I first stumbled across Ashleigh being an absolute FORCE at Gypsy Sally’s. We’d played our set and were taking our time loading out, and she leapt right into her set with a ferocious voice, passionate lyrics, and a fierce sapphire gaze (damn it, should’ve set up the BRIGHT light tonight!)

Since then I got to have her first at the Takoma Park Folk Festival Sneak Preview show and then at the Takoma Park Folk Festival, where she casually strolled in with a laundry list of local legends as her backing band. An excellent blues writer who is seemingly verging into the sound of Americana and country, she’s an honest writer in a way that you just don’t hear very often. Unlike a lot of my poppier performers, I absolutely BELIEVE the words coming out of her mouth.
