Joey Jenkins kicking off the list!

Okay, in all honesty two open mics might be a bit much for me nowadays. I know there was a period of time where I had even more – but this week I was FEELING the outlay of energy.

Collide.

Unlike a gig, where your symbiosis with the audience is forefront, and you can rely on them feeding YOU as much as you feed them, hosting the open mic is almost entirely outlay, and especially when the majority of artists are less-experienced or frankly more sedate, it’s a LOT of energy outlay, like kneading massive blocks of cold clay, trying to get it into motion, trying to get it to respond, but it takes… so… much….

Sev Raina.

And then there’s getting artists on stage, getting them off stage, I don’t feel like I was in my finest form on Wednesday night, and there were times when I felt like my Host Persona or even my ears were just… tired.

But we got there, and then my featured artist kinda gave me a boost!

Emma G

Emma G is a pop artist who’s subverts that normally surfacial genre with ferocity and genuine artistic integrity. She’s a force of nature both on and off the stage, and especially combined with our percussionist Joey Jenkins, made it kind of hard for our little open mic to remain seated.

No really. Even *I* was almost interested in dancing.

The El Golfo open mic is made possible in part through the support of Dave Eisner and the House of Musical Traditions. Our featured artists are supported through the generous donations of our audience! Gallery here : http://www.ilyaimy.com/wordpress/?p=16542
