April 17th, 2020. A World of Chaos.

Wednesday nights after our webcast I’ve been joining a wonderful open mic out of Saint Louis, MO. Really warm, wonderful collective of humans.

I like to think I’m pretty clever. But I’d be the first to admit I do dumb shit. I’m intrinsically cynical about human nature but actually quite optimistic about the human spirit and though I’m pretty skeptical about a lot of things, I’m also a first-adopter and a great believer in science. It’s an interesting time to be alive. I think Coronavirus has brought out some of the best and worst in people and has done an excellent job of showing me that, unfortunately, my species absolutely Lives up to my expectations, disappointing me almost every turn, while individuals continue to amaze me with both their good hearts and also their stupidity.

So there’s that.

Sound checking for our event with Lea… I’ve got to get over even MY low-level audiophile tendencies for the vagaries of live streams that I’m not running!!!

The news sloshes back and forth, ebbs and flows of information, misinformation, changed information, updated information and late information. People lament that what they were told yesterday isn’t the same as what they were told yesterday even though what we all seemed to Love just a couple of months ago was how rapidly everything around us evolved, while simultaneously being frustrated with how everything kept changing.

Ugh – so frustrating. Though our first full band video premier went swimmingly, the second one was a clusterfuck – and the most frustrating part of it is that it seemed to EVENTUALLY work just fine – it took over half an hour to get it running smoothly, but what it came down to was : Vagaries of Facebook. Nothing I could’ve done to make it better.

Truly, we Live the end times, ruled by the Ruinous Powers of Tzeentch and Nurgle, with Khorne none too far behind – and Slaanesh lurking behind every closed door as we amuse ourselves and try to forget what forments in the world around us.

Friday night I ran a show for Institute of Musical Traditions. Some of it was awesome, there were a couple of glitches, but in general it was a pretty good show. We’re About 9, the Bumper Jacksons and Tom Prasada-Rao interviewed by Dave Eisner. I was pretty proud of what we perpetrated!
I’m doing ALL SORTS of stuff – and I feed him every morning, but the only thing Prince cares about is the closed door betwixt him and Kristen.

No, actually calling upon the Chaos Gods from Warhammer is probably NOT too good an idea as the metaphors and parallels are a little TOO strong, including our self-annointed wannabe deity leader leading us through propoganda, xenophobia and anti-science. And yet : there’s a massive, fat fly buzzing in the background. Was it summoned by my casual drop of the Plague Lord’s pestilent name? Might could.

Meanwhile, while spinning many plates, here and there I continue to drop the ball. Today I found out that one of my acts for tonight’s showcase hadn’t actually CONFIRMED. And looking back, it’s true. They said “yes” and then didn’t answer back as I sent slowly evolving details that LATER involved a – wait, never mind, just found the email where they replied, thanking me for everything and sending me their payment info that I’d asked for. Fuck that noise. Is this GASLIGHTING?!?!?!?

Sigh.

Chaos Gods indeed.
