Happy 19 Years Heather Aubrey Lloyd!

Monday night Heather joined my open mic. It was really nice to have her hanging out brightening the Zoom room.

A friend wrote the following…

Dear rob and Heather,

Belated happy 19 years to your partnership. Listening to your anniversary show filled me with memories of when I first moved to NC; strange to think back, 15+ years ago when I first moved to NC, that you were some of the first people I met and connected with down here!

Show fliers and posters from a random box of memories in NC…

All of the Live from the Lair shows have helped me keep going this year – something consistent to look forward to, particularly during some of the more challenging parts of this endlessly challenging year.

It is amazing how much has happened in those years, and how much your music has been a constant in my life through these years, and I don’t begin to have the words to express what that has meant over time, and this year in particular.

So instead, since I’ve been going through boxes of memorabilia as we continue to unpack from last year’s move, attached please find a picture of some fliers from that time you played in NC on my birthday. 🙂

Sending strength and patience and gratitude and love and friendship from Raleigh.

I’m so grateful not just for my musical relationship and friendship with Heather – but how that’s forged relationships and friendships all across the country. People who remember us, people for whom we’ve been significant.

Good times were had. Full video below…

When we first started touring it was with the dream that we’d be knitting together because even then I saw the divide between red and blue and haves and have nots and how we just didn’t see one another as PEOPLE. That dream was torn apart by the reality of simply trying to survive as artists and creatives in a very expensive world, made possible again through social media, and then torn apart again by that same medium. Knowing that we made some sort of impact on people’s Lives means… well… maybe it’s not 100% a dead dream.

We’d initially planned for the show to have multiple cameras allowing US to explore a box of memorabilia – but we had a really foul network failure running up to the show and we went with a backup plan, frantically uploading pictures into the webcast to throw up on the screen. The QUALITY was probably better (like this photo of Heather and I with the remains of her crushed Saturn) but it was less satisfying than digging through a box!

Our music keeps rolling and playing with Heather tonight, exploring old songs and playing them in a strange way, both distancing and intimate – I appreciate that the format at least allows us to hear from those far away friends. From as far away as Japan, from as close as just a couple of doors down on the next block – Wednesday was one of our bigger online shows and financially and spiritually it gets us a little further.

No Jamie : thank YOU.
