November 27th, 2020. In post I’d like to thank…

The fact that I didn’t see a lot of self-righteous “you’re a horrible person for celebrating Thanksgiving posts….*

Yeah, we took Christmas back YEARS ago.

Yup, I get it. The world’s a terrible place and a lot of what’s whitewashed and celebrated in the Hallmarked up, Wikipedia-defined, grade school group project version of “what we celebrate Thanksgiving” is absolutely terrible. And there’s no place in it for poor people, brown people, lady people or anything but the regressive patriarchy.

But somehow that’s not generally what people are thinking about when they take a day to celebrate their relationships and to take pride in their cooking and join with (or mourn not being about to join with) their families. And the world’s a terrible place and sometimes you need to breathe. And turkey prices are depressed and so are most of us. So I’m glad we gave it a rest this year and just relaxed a touch because it’s okay to take something from it’s old meaning and let it be something new and beautiful.

*Ah, there we go. Just as I was about to click “Publish” someone sent me an angry message about how I wasn’t addressing the horrors of what Thanksgiving means appropriately with my platform. Believe it or not, singer/songwriters with a reach of a couple of thousand people are probably NOT the beginning OR end of the problem.

Fuck themā€¦ Thereā€™s a lot more of us out here who agree with your take on taking something old and making it newā€¦ And part of that is changing things without the angry spewing.
