Yay vaccines! Needle-hatin’ me, grateful that these things have been “warp sped” but wishing I could project some realism into people’s minds. It’s ABSOLUTELY impressive how fast corporations have rallied around the idea of getting a vaccine for COVID up and running and tested and in production so quickly. I think I’ve read that the fastest this has ever been done as the vaccine for Mumps which took four years… the idea that we’re heading up to having a viable vaccine with high efficacy and decent safety in under ONE is absolutely incredible.

But it’s not in my arm yet. Venues that are excitedly getting ready to reopen and book shows and people excited to get back to ‘normal’ “as soon as the vaccine’s available” seem to really be unclear on the math. Vaccinating 330 million people, or even a sizable fraction thereof, is going to take a LOT of time, and when you’re looking at the Live music scene that’s like to be the last piece of the puzzle.

Forgive my cynicism, but when it comes to distribution audiences may well be sitting around ready for the show to go on as performers are still waiting in the wings for their two turns under the needle. Most artists aren’t working as health care providers, aren’t “front-line workers”, aren’t over the age of 65 AND probably have kinda crappy health insurance. Most of us are going to be dead last in line.

Hopefully no pun-intended.

So I’m trying to stay comfortable in my mask and am still upgrading my streaming gear. I’m trying to be a patient non-patient.

Yep I would gratefully give healthcare workers the first round, followed closely by first responders and supply chain employees… oh! and TEACHERS!!!
