Brutally touched by my open mic community this Monday night. BRUTALLY! Deeply? Lastingly?
My co-co-host Chris Ehrich came up with the idea and with the help of Rowan and Kristen and who knows who else I was surprised by most of the regulars covering rob songs to celebrate the first year of the VOM. It felt pretty good to be celebrated even though I fear I wasn’t good at showing it.
Just like when Brennan and the Java Mammas open mic did it for my birthday I must admit I was a little slow at catching on, but once I realized what was happening I really enjoyed figuring out what everyone was playing. I Love hearing things re-imagined and having my OWN imagination twisted around someone else’s playing and singing style is just… well – it’s sort of one of the things I Love most about music as a collaborative art form.
I’m not going to get too mushy. I think everyone looks at me funny when I get mushy. But having played two memorial shows for other open mic hosts recently – what can I say? I’m so glad they’re doing this while I’m alive to see it!
Thank you thank you thank you.
