This is a pretty impressive article – take a moment (well, a couple of moments as it’s pretty long) and read through it. If you’re moving through it and get your TL:DRs on, at least skip to the last portion “Democracy After Babel”. I don’t agree with all of it, but honestly my own solution for the future of “don’t have kids” isn’t really scalable! The individually-actionable stuff is pretty important too. Think before you share and think TWICE before you respond – because if you don’t you’re part of the problem. It’s gonna address stupidity on the right and fragility on the left – and rather than call it something else or apologize for it, it’s going to discuss a bit more of how it got there – and how reasonable people, the ones who roll their eyes silently as the nutcases on both sides suck up the air in the room, but know we can never be as loud as the fringes – are actually the majority but we can’t find one another through all the bullshit.
I think of myself as a bridge builder, but I’ve grown exhausted by the exercise. If nothing else, this article makes me feel a little less pathetic for feeling that way.
Oh – and then get off Facebook. (well, maybe wait till after our webcast tonight)
