May 1st, 2023. May Day.

Prince isn’t thwarting me this morning. Who ate a big steaming bowl of fishy goo with all the dietary supplements dusted in? This guy.
Saturday night Rowan and I played at Island Pride Oasis. T’was a small show. But damn we had a good time.

Mondays are for being thwarted, it would seem. Or at least delayed. The world is in a holding pattern and it’ll call me back. If it wasn’t for how much I hate the phone, and how much I have to psychologically gear myself up for making a phone call, it’d be pleasant.

The weekend was strangely relaxed. After all the stress of cat care, panic, the horrible fear that he wasn’t going to make it through the week – the weekend suddenly was very eye-of-the-storm – suspiciously quiet.

And so my mom broke her wrist in Greece just so I wouldn’t be bored.

As above, I hate phones. With in-person conversations I can dive in, smile, hope for the best – and then eventually I leave. The phone? Well… you don’t have any body language to cue off of, they assume all SORTS of stuff based on why you’re calling (billing? you must be poor! health insurance? you must be dying! tech support? you must be dumb!) and the average phone call they get every day. And then you hang up. And wait. Because they’re going to need to follow up. And they can’t follow up in a non-intrusive way. You don’t even get excused from other activities. You don’t stay home so you can stick close to the phone. Your phone sticks close to you. Like a tick. Waiting to vibrate and call your attention back to the world of cat health, health insurance, HVAC, lending centres, booking… it could draw you into ANY conversation at any time, and all the paperwork is at home on my desk and I’m driving and YEAH I shouldn’t have picked up but I’ve been WAITING for this call WHY CAN’T YOU EMAIL LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN!?!?

The rob and Rowan show : Hostile and Ruin. Not SO hostile.
Hoopa!

And so after the fear and panic and tears of the week, Kristen went off for an overnight trip with Lulu’s Fate and I stayed home with a Loving cat, had a relaxed Saturday, a more-relaxed-than-it-should’ve-been Rowan and rob gig that night… drove home and had a pretty-nothing Sunday gearing myself up for Monday morning phone calls… all of which have gone nowhere.

panicked grabbing of ringing phone since unrecognized callers could still be important

Sigh. It’s just another tens of thousands of dollars available as a loan to my small business. If I had a dollar for every time I was offered tens of thousands of dollars I’d have hundreds of dollars.

Well, if I can’t get anyone on the phone I guess I should get on the road and drive 80 miles to pickup borrowed gear that’s suddenly problematic to get returned. (teach me MY lesson about lending out my stuff)
