May 26th, 2023. The Joy of Friends.

The Rambling House in Columbus OH is pretty serious about their joy. I drank … four? Ginger beers?
Our new friends Luke and Eddie performing a freakin ADMIRABLE Pink Floyd cover of “Have a Cigar”.

Last night in Pittsburgh was so fly-by-night. RACING into the city, setting up the Lair (in Brad Yoder’s Living room) as he tutors upstairs and OrangeG comes popping in at the last second. Wrapping up, chatting nicely with OrangeG who’s a wonderful new friend, but our OLD friend Brad Yoder was already out the door to race to Texas for Kerrville…

Eric insisted this was the best Mexican food in town. After nabbing dinner – I think the title there “The Best Latin Food” is perhaps NOT hyperbole!

There’s something wonderful, familiar, terrible, able all of this. That sense of sprinting past people whose Lives are so very similar to your own – the other road warriors who may be the only people who really “get” what your Life is like – but you never really get to bond beyond these brief moments on stage.

Dougie’s coming east from the Midwest, Anna PS is headed north from Pittsburgh, Brad’s going south from Pittsburgh, we’re on our way to Ohio… I would Love to code the app that tracks my friends just to see where we all are, just to visualize it.

A good list at the Lovely Rambling House in Columbus, OH. We were the Secret Special Guests.

And of course – though I’m waxing poetic and nostalgic and whatever above, the truth is that this has NOT been my Life for over three years, and even before then it was less and less a part of my world. And so the road-warriorism has an INTENSE sense of alienness on top of the nostalgia.

So much has changed.

I mean : Eric Nassau cut his beard tentacles.

Still one of the most fantastic huggers, and a great writer of songs about warm and wonderful things. He took us to the open mic at The Rambling House where we had a featured set and had an amazing time. Met some good people – ate some tacos – prepped ourselves for our visit in August. Generally bonded with Eric. T’was a joy.
