July 24th, 2023. Gosh we rock.

Set up and ready to play at Worman’s Mill in Frederick, MD.
Monocacy Brewing in Frederick, MD.

It’s Monday morning and I’m bone tired. I do NOT deserve to be. The rest of the band has some form of work this morning, and though I had a meeting and some office work yesterday, I really had most of Sunday off and this morning is free and clear till I’m recording with Heather! But last week was a LOT and this weekend was a JOY, but also a fair amount of a lot. Open mics, gigs and sunshine, set up, break down, load in, load out. The rhythm of my Life keeping my blood flowing and my lungs breathing, but somehow never quite making my arms stronger or my belly thinner.

Good thing it makes me happy!

After Tuesday’s kinda low-key (but talent-filled) Spark, and Wednesday’s low-key (but delicious) gig, Thursday’s brand-new open mic at Morsbergers seemed to take more energy than it should’ve. After all that, this weekend was dangerously close to perfection.

(Ah, gum, yes gum… gum would be PERFECTION!)

And so, my mental energies could be 100% with US this weekend, first Friday in Frederick, then Saturday in Frederick. I’m even more impressed with the weather we were fortunate enough to have as I look ahead to this week’s nightmarish forecast.

Mid-80s and breezy for both shows, and though load-in was tiring, and three-hour gigs are never EASY, the sheer joy of playing to people was enough to see us through. The two gigs built on one another really well too. Over a dozen people from Friday came to see us on Saturday. I feel like most shows, with their deluge of invariably new faces sprinkled with just a few regulars, always, always, always feel like starting from scratch, over and over and over again. This weekend felt the way my whole CAREER should feel! It felt like building!

Shame we won’t be back in the area for a month or so… sigh.

No matter. It was a good week. A good weekend. This slow, quiet Monday feels like a Sunday, and I’m grateful for it. I’m moving files. Prepping mics. Thinking thoughts.
