Tis a sad state of affairs that I have NO pictures from last night. They must exist in some form. Lots of people TOOK pictures. Lots of people took video. But where those pics and videos go will be an eternal mystery. Where ALLLLL the pics and videos go that people take of random shows will probably be an eternal mystery. Exabytes of data must be generated every weekend of amazing performances captured by crappy cellphone video (but rapidly getting better) blocked by heads and obfuscated by people ordering from the bar – and it must go – somewhere?
In any case, it was a loud, wonderful, better-sounding-than-last-time-cause-I-keep-learning-and-adapting show at Dark Horse last night, and though I’d not want to do that every Saturday night, I could do one once a month and thoroughly enjoy it. I came away with great fatigue, minimal injury, and more cash than I had going in.
There’s something to being Loved in that environment. I’d argue that we probably didn’t bring in a lot of extra business, as the Saturday seemed just as packed as the Thursday shows we’ve been doing, but Pinky (the owner) insists that we’re a house favourite, and beyond meaning the crowd, she means of the staff and herself. Indeed – most all the security peeps have bought merch at this point, and Pinky tries to schedule herself for the bar when we’re there. And when we went to talk calendar in the back, well, a LOT of venue owners will blow smoke claiming “oh, you’re a favourite and we like to try to get you on the calendar early”, and I’ve heard that from Pinky a couple of times… to look at an entirely blank calendar as she says “yeah, you’re a favourite but I know you play a lot, I wanted to get you guys before filling the rest of the calendar” means either a) she’s telling the truth, or b) she’s a good liar who takes the time to generate a blank calendar / hide events from me which I respect just about as much.
In any case, Sunday’s moving slow, and that’s pretty nice. I slept till noon, Kristen made pancakes, my ears aren’t ringing, and I’m just typing, doing math, relaxing a little bit and thinking a little bit more.
But man, I DO kinda wish there were pictures.
