November 21st, 2023. Takoma Open Spark w Steve Steckler & Robert Coleman – 1st Year Anniversary – Happy Birthday Dave.

Dave Eisner turns 75 tomorrow!

Many artists in the area owe some part of their start if not part of their greater career to David Eisner – owner of House of Musical Traditions, founder of Institute of Musical Traditions, now presenter of shows and lessons here at School of Musical Traditions. November 22nd is his birthday and last year he said “I want an open mic for my birthday” – and here we are a year later celebrating his big 75 (a day early, but that’s okay).

In addition to celebrating Dave, HE’S invited a featured artist that has a similar whiff of awesome to many local artists : many of us have recorded with Steve Steckler at his Asparagus Media studio here in Takoma Park. ilyAIMY’s “Another Life” was recorded there and his ability to relate to our raw, aggressive sound while still keeping a folk aesthetic was a huge reason the relationship was so beautiful.

Bev Stanton.

Tonight our featured artist is one half of Scotch and Soda! “Steve Steckler and Robert Coleman play jazz as part of the DC-based quartet, Scotch and Soda, along with John Previti on bass and Nick Ruggieri on drums. They bring their own unique interpretations to swing, latin and American-Songbook tunes, playing old-school archtop electric guitars.”

We do this every Tuesday. Signup before 7. I start at 7. 7112 Willow Avenue in Takoma Park, MD. robsopenmics.ilyaimy.com for more information.
