Jeff Miller continues to simply be one of my favourite road warriors. He’s a talented, charismatic, solo performer who I like a lot, and who – I THINK – likes me! It’s been a long week – a long COUPLE of weeks really – and my personal social battery is close to dead. Like, you put your tongue on it and you don’t get NOTHING. So, when Jeff texted and said “hey, I’ll be passing through Catonsville on my way to the open mic, you want me to just pick you up?” my hatred of driving back and forth to Takoma Park only JUST won over my desire for a couple of hours ALONE in my car…
But I’m glad it did. We had a great drive down, chatting and bantering. A great open mic. A great (different from usual pizza) with better crust but worse mushrooms. And a great drive back. I wish the audience had been bigger, but the beautiful weather seemed to result in people running off and doing like… outdoor shit.
For the next week and a half I imagine I’m going to really, really miss my outdoor Ellicott City open mics. Of course… that’s a flash of time here in Maryland, and very, very quickly it’ll be too hot, or there will be wildfires, or wasps, or velociraptors….
