We drove about 400 km with a few leisurely stops along an incredibly scenic route in the Dalarna region. We stopped for lunch at Lake Siljan, a huge lake with a long pier you can walk out on. Lots of tourists and families enjoying themselves for the start of summer vacation.
A little further along the lake, we stopped in Nusnäs, where the famous wooden Dalarna horses are made. We visited a couple workshops and their attached souvenir shops. Then the scenery kept getting more gorgeous as we approached Idre, where we’re staying for 3 nights. Ana and Alex whipped up a tasty BBQ at our cabin.
It’s taken a whole week, but it looks like I finally caught the ick that Rob had. So far it’s just a very mild sore throat; we’re throwing Ana’s Chinese herbs, tea and other liquids at it and hoping it doesn’t get worse. I wanna go hiking tomorrow!
Yeah, it’s next to a Burger King. But it lets you know you’re in Dalarna!Approaching Lake Siljan was a lovely surprise! We stopped at a traditional Swedish lunch place near the lake, where they serve buffets of a couple dishes. I had the fish & potatoes, there was also pasta with meat sauce. Plus Lingonberry juice, coffee and cookies. Tasty homestyle food!Next stop, Nusnäs, to see the Dala horses workshops. There’s a big RV culture here for summer vacationsGet in loser, we’re going to church! ….… I’m not kidding! The second workshop we visited had a robot cutting the horsesWe drove through a ton of forest land, but much of it is industrial.Right after this we found a place to pull off to enjoy this view…You can barely see it, but there’s a rainbow. Our home for the next 3 nights! There are several of these newly built cabins on this lot. We’re close to a ski resort which is very popular to stay here during the winter. We were so excited to see reindeer on the roadside, but had no idea they would also be right outside our cabin!!There is a sauna in the cabin! We made another grocery trip and Ana and Alex whipped up this delicious BBQ! This is only part of it…we probably have tomorrow’s dinner done too.Taken at 11pm! It’s not getting fully dark here.
