Day 19: Copenhagen
Our return flight on Wednesday is out of Copenhagen, so we decided to spend two nights here beforehand with Ana & Alex. We took an early morning Oresundstag train from Nybro, Sweden to Copenhagen. Took 3 hrs 40 minutes, but it’s an easy ride and you don’t have to pay the $60 car toll over the bridge to Denmark.
Our hotel is near Rosenborg Castle, so we decided to check that out first. Insanely ornate, but some of the rooms were fairly small and there were a lot of people, so it felt a bit cramped at times. It also felt more like a palace than a castle…but it’s got a moat, so I guess it’s a castle? Then we got caught in a brief but intense rainstorm, which seems to be the way here in Scandinavia!
After drying off at the hotel, we walked through Nyhavn (touristy but pretty) and over a bridge to an outdoor food hall, where we got really good tacos. Also felt a bit touristy – everything was in English – but it was a lovely evening. Might do Danish food tomorrow, but we didn’t really feel like more heavy pork & potatoes!
It was kind of jarring to be in an urban environment again after the peaceful Swedish countryside – but I suppose we have to get back to people sometime!
