Our feature tonight is an old Baltimore-based hero – and by old I mean about the same vintage as myself. It took me a couple of years for Matt to grow on me – and even then it was less about the music than the attitude. He does the punk folk talking blues of a modern-day reincarnation of Dylan (I know Dylan’s not dead, reincarnation doesn’t HAVE to be linear!) really well – and though I can APPRECIATE, respect and support that – I’m NOT a Dylan fan! But the attitude, the ferocious TRUTH of what he brings to an unassailable touring work ethic is something that I grew to admire intensely – and I’m happy to PREACH the gospel of Pless as much as I am able.
And, like Dylan – the man’s a Hell of a storyteller, and a genius lyricist. Holy crap.
Plus I knew Dave Eisner would dig him!
